10.9 per cent growth of freight traffic in East Coast Railway than last year

BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has loaded 16.16 million tonnes (MT) of freight in September this year which is 1.58 MT more than last year’s September loading by increasing a growth of 10.9 per cent.
ECoR statement said freight loading of the Indian Railways for the month of September this year has surpassed last year’s loading for the same month. It has loaded 102.12 MT of freight last month which is 13.59 MT higher than the last year’s freight loading for the same month (88.53 MT). The increase in the freight loading is 15.35 per cent, it added.
“ECoR has witnessed growth of loading during this pandemic time. It has achieved despite lockdown and closure and less workforce in industries under ECoR jurisdiction,” said the official sources.
The zonal railway has utilized 8,114 wagons per day last month which is 763 more wagons per day compared to last year’s September with a growth of 10.4 per cent more. “It is happening because continuous review of freight performance through the Business Development Units, integrating innovative policy with stability and certainty in the logistics sector,” said a senior railway officer.
