2 gates to come up at Rama Devi varsity
Bhubaneswar: Rama Devi Women‘s University here will set up two gates on its campus. While one gate will be built near the Academic Block 2 from the Anand Bazaar market side, the other will come up near the varsity’s entrance from the Nimantran restaurant side.
The new gates will follow all fire safety rules, authorities said. The institution had submitted proposals in this regard to the higher education department a few months ago. After getting approval, a work order was issued for the new gates to be built by the Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
The gate, which will come up near Nimantran restaurant, is a few metres from the existing entrance, built a few years ago with an estimated cost of Rs 65 lakh. Roads and other structures have been constructed to connect the new gate. The construction firm will demolish the boundary wall and build the new gate, a varsity sources said.
Vice-chancellor of the university Aparajita Chowdhury said the existing gates do not comply with fire safety norms. “Both the proposals in this regard have been approved by the government,” she added.
Chowdhury added that the Anand Bazaar side gate will be bigger in size to allow smooth passage to fire tenders.
