Actress Deepa Sahu passes away

Actress Deepa Sahu, who had been fighting cancer for past several months, passed away today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. The actress was being treated for uterus cancer, which was detected at a very advanced stage.

Her colleagues from the Odia film, television and independent music fraternities mourned the demise of an actress who had more to give to the industry in terms of more number of years. She was a popular face in the Odia music videos in the late ’90s and early 2000s during the peak years of independent music in the state. She also had acted in several films and television serials.
Earlier, she was admitted to a government hospital and was later shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Many people came forward to help her during the treatment. After returning home, she was again admitted to a private hospital two weeks ago. “We are at the hospital with her family members. I convey my condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for the departed soul,” said actor Samaresh Routray.
“It’s another sad news for us. Our very dear Deepa Sahu left us so early, just a few days after we lost Bijay Mohanty Sir. She was one of the most successful actresses during the heydays of Odia Indie music. May her soul rest in peace,” said actor Sabyasachi Mishra.
Deepa was a popular household name for more than a decade. She is well-known for her beautiful expressions and dancing skills in music album like Tor Krushnachuda Rangara Nali Odhani, Ekda Ekda Ra, Haai Haai Toh Mali Phula Gajara and many more. Later, she also acted in films like Nari Aakhire Nian, and a few others. She had to prematurely retire from acting to take care of her mother who was also suffering from cancer.
