Archita Sahu distributes sanitary pads in rural areas
Actress Archita Sahu has been contributing to the fight against coronavirus in her own way. The actress has ensured distribution of sanitary napkins for girls in rural areas as part of the ongoing World Menstrual Hygiene Week.
Speaking to us, she said whatever be the situation one thing is constant for women and that’s the menstrual cycle. During this lockdown, many women in rural areas can’t afford to buy sanitary napkins. Besides, the taboo around menstruation has been affecting the menstrual hygiene of many girls and women in rural areas. “So, I have been arranging sanitary pads for them and distributing these through agencies and voluntary organisations, which distribute food and other essentials among people,” she said.
She recently posted a picture on social media putting a red dot on her hand to lend support to the Red Dot Challenge started by Unicef India to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene. “All women should be able to manage their periods hygienically, safely in privacy and with dignity. People must stop shaming periods,” she said.
