Bhubaneswar: Three zoo staff held for ‘beating up’ 23 Chhattisgarh tourists

BHUBANESWAR: Three persons were arrested here on Monday for allegedly beating up 23 tourists from Chhattisgarh at Nandankanan zoo, on the outskirts of the city, the day before.
The police said the zoo’s contractual employees beat up the tourists following an argument after they (the accused) complained that they had not been allowed to board a safari bus despite being in the queue. Of the 23 tourists, three sustained severe injuries in the assault.
The accused — Santosh Kumar Sahoo, 35, Kanhu Mohapatra, 21, and Aman Patashani, 22 — all hail from Daruthenga, a village adjoining the zoo. The the incident took place at 4pm on Sunday when the tourists were about to board a safari bus after buying the ticket.
