BJD leader among three killed in fire in Odisha’s Ganjam

BERHAMPUR: Three persons, including a BJD leader, died of suffocation after a fire broke out in a house at Goshaninuagon village in Ganjam district on Friday morning due to suspected short circuit.
The deceased were identified as Alekh Choudhury (69), the BJD leader and former president of Berhampur Central Cooperative Bank Limited, and two others.
They were rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital . During treatment, all three died. Several political leaders, irrespective of their party affiliation rushed to medical college after the news of the death of Choudhury spread.
The fire might be broken out in the room due to the electric short circuit, firefighters suspected.
Choudhury was the former president of the Ganjam district Congress committee. He unsuccessfully contested for the state assembly from Berhampur and Aska on Congress ticket and also as independent in different elections. He joined in BJD before the election in 2014.
