The city administration has started a campaign called Cycles4Change to create awareness among road-users to show respect to cyclists. The Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) organised an event as part of the campaign where more than 100 cab drivers took a pledge to respect cyclists on city roads.
The campaign’s main objective is to encourage use of cycles as a means of transport among city residents. The authorities also have started Cyclegiri, a popular activity across the state capital. Earlier, a cyclothon was held as part of the campaign.
As responsible citizens, the drivers of a popular cab aggregator took the ‘safe cycling pledge’ near Smart Park, Saheed Nagar. The event was coordinated by Kamaljit Das, general manager (administration) of BSCL. It was attended by officials of BSCL, BMC, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and citizens of nearby localities. They all followed Covid-19 safety guidelines while attending the event.
“This initiative has been taken to create awareness among people about cycling and cyclists. It also aims to promote safe cycling on city roads as an eco-friendly and healthy means of transport,” a BSCL officer said.
