Colleges told to seek NCTE nod to run BEd courses

Bhubaneswar: The higher education department has asked the state’s teacher education institutions and colleges offering BEd to submit an online application before the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to obtain approval to run the courses.
Thirty colleges will apply, seeking approval to offer two-year BEd, four-year BEd and two-year MEd courses for 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic sessions. Of these, 16 standalone teacher education colleges will offer two-year BEd courses from 2022-23. Some of these institutions will also offer two-year MEd courses.
Along with the standalone colleges, 11 general degree colleges and three model degree colleges will run integrated teacher education programme (ITEP) from 2023-24 academic session. For this, these institutes need to apply for the NCTE approval, said a higher education department official.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has mentioned this integrated BEd course under the ITEP. Even a gazette notification of the NCTE (Recognition, Norms and Procedure) Amendment Regulations, 2021, has discussed the ITEP and its implementation. Recognition of 15 teacher education institutions (TEIs) was withdrawn in 2020-21 for having less number of faculty than required.
