Covid-19: Govt offices in Odisha to function with 50 per cent staff strength in August

BHUBANESWAR: The state secretariat and other state government offices will function with 50 per cent of their employees’ strength (all staff including Group- A officers) in August according to an order issued by the state general administration (GA) department.
The decision has been taken to avoid crowd in government offices in view of the increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases. All state government offices will remain closed on Saturdays in August even as the state government has imposed weekend shutdown in four districts—Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Cuttack and Rourkela city.
Instructions have also been issued to ensure that government work does not suffer.
“The departments/heads of offices are at liberty to decide the manner of selection of employees, who will attend office on roster basis. However, the essential offices/services such as special relief commissioners, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, police, fire services, health services and municipal services hall function in full strength,” said GA secretary Sanjeev Chopra in the letter.
Officers and staff, who have been provided with virtual private network, shall work from home, when not assigned roster duty. The GA department order said employees must be available to attend any office work of urgent nature at short notice and be available on telephone at all times. All government officials will abide by the guidelines issued from time to time to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Odisha.
Earlier, the GA department had issued advisory to manage the workplace after detection of positive cases in government offices.
