Cuttack Heritage Walks (CHW), an initiative taken by the people of Cuttack to highlight the heritage sites of the city, is going to restart this month after a hiatus of more than six months. The walk was suspended in March after the pandemic led to a nationwide lockdown.

Around 30 participants took part in an event organised recently by the CHW to launch their website. Rajya Sabha MP Subash Singh, who launched the website, said CHW has been trying to promote the age-old heritage sites and monuments of Cuttack and the website would help boost tourism to the city. “The CHW is playing a very important role in creating awareness among youngsters about our heritage. It should also function as a pressure group to force authorities to protect and promote these historical places in the city,” said Singh.
CHW convenor Dipak Samantrai presented the MP a photo of the iconic gate to the Barabati Fort. He said the participants took part in a small walk following all Covid-19 guidelines. They covered the Barabti Fort and went to the nearby Gadagadeswar temple to have a look at the sculpture of King Gajapati Kapilendra Deba, who had ruled during 1434-1466. “We are planning to hold our first proper heritage walk in the third week of October,” Samantraitold us.
