Actors Siddhant Mahapatra and Partha Sarathi Ray, along with Olympian Anuradha Biswal, attended a cycle rally organised today to create awareness about cancer. The rally, which is part of the weekly Cyclegiri cyclothon, was organised by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) in association with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The 5-km long rally started from Ekamra Plaza near Sishu Bhavan Square and culminated at Kalinga Stadium and saw several cyclists, including women, taking part.
Sidhhant, who is an avid cyclist himself, addressed the gathering on the occasion. “Cycling reduces pollution. It also helps one control his/her bad habits like smoking and consuming alcohol, which contribute the most to cancer across India. That’s the major reason we should cycle every day and promote safe cycling,” said the Ollywood actor and former MP. He also urged parents to motivate their wards to cycle daily and gift their kids a cycle on their birthday since it would help them stay healthy.
Anuradha also recalled her childhood days when she used to cycle. “Since cycling is a good habit that keeps one fit and healthy and ultimately counters cancer in one or another, we should promote it among people,” she said.
Leading oncologists of city-based hospitals and cancer survivors were also felicitated on the occasion. A mono act was also staged by educationist and social worker Sabita Patnaik and her team.
