Don’t step out of homes unless very urgent: Odisha CM
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday appealed people of Odisha not to step out of their homes unless it’s very urgent and to mandatorily wear masks while going outside.
In a video message, the chief minister said next 25 days will be crucial for the state in view of the return of around 5 lakh people and onset of monsoon from June 10, which can bring about spike in cases of fever, cold and cough.
“Our success in fight against Covid-19 depends on how we manage the next 25 days,” said Naveen, justifying his government’s decision for weekend shutdown in 11 districts with high caseloads and strict enforcement of night curfew from 7 pm to 5 am every day.
“Stay in your homes and don’t go outside unless it’s very urgent. Wear masks while going out as proper wearing of masks will reduce infection by 90 per cent. Maintain social distancing at market, office and traffic areas,” said Naveen adding safety of 4.5 crore Odias are important for him.
Stating that no one wants their family members to get infected, the chief minister appealed people to wash their hands for 20 seconds with soaps after coming from outside.
Keeping in mind the safety of vulnerable class, Naveen requested people not to allow old age persons of above 65 years age, co-morbid patients, pregnant women and children below 10 years to go outside during the next one month.
Reiterating that both lives and livelihoods are crucial for the state government, Naveen said the lockdown has been relaxed to allow livelihood activities. “But we should be careful so that the relaxations may not endanger out lives. Self-restraint is the only way at this moment to stop spread of infection,” said Naveen.
In his video message, Naveen also appealed people to adhere to the guidelines issued by the state government to contain spread of the virus.
