BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) will provide 28 goods sheds situated at different stations on outsourcing basis to business houses in order to increase railway’s share in the transportation. The industries or business establishments can use it for storing goods there for transportation.
Recently, ECoR has set up business development units (BDUs) in zonal and divisional levels to attract industry and business establishments to use freight services of the railways. These units will bring the railways closer to industry and trade centres for increasing miscellaneous non-bulk goods traffic along with strengthening Railway’s share in transporting traditional commodities including iron ore, coal and other metals.
These units will attract trade and industry bodies for transportation of their products via railway instead of roadways. After holding discussion with business houses, ECoR has now planned to provide its 28 goods sheds on outsourcing basis and has called for expression of interest on the above subject.
The goods sheds are situated at Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhanmandal, Dhenkanal, Jagannathpur, Jajpur Keonjhar Road, Kapilas Road, Khurda Road, Nergundi, Bobbili, Jagadalpur, Jypore, Rayagada, Srikakulam Road, Visakhapatnam New Good Complex, Vizianagaram, Balangir, Bargarh Road, Belsonda, Dungripalli, Hirakud, Junagarh Road, Kantabanji, Kesinga, Khariar Road, Komakhan, Lapanga and Sambalpur City.
ECoR sources said the business establishments can use these goods sheds to keep their products for transportation in trains.
“ECoR is now exploring ways to increase miscellaneous non-bulk goods traffic to strengthen Railway’s share in traditional commodities being carried at present. All proposals received from customers, traders and industries are being reviewed promptly in appropriate level so that immediate assistance will be provided, if required,” said the official statement.
