Govt eyes March 2021 deadline for facelift of Puri Swargadwar
BHUBANESWAR: The redevelopment of Puri Swargadwar should be completed by March 2021, 5T secretary V K Pandian, who visited Puri to review the work, has instructed the officials concerned.
As redevelopment of the Swargadwar constitutes an important part of the state’s initiative to transform Puri into a world-class heritage city, the government has taken up the work with funds from the chief minister’s relief fund (CMRF). In November 2019, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had approved Rs 5 crore for the facelift of the Swargadwar.
The renovation includes rest shed for people coming for funerals and plantation activities, said official sources.
Pandian also reviewed the progress of work for a cowshed for stray cattle and a rehabilitation centre for beggars.
To keep the Badadanda clean, the administration has decided to shift stray cattle to the cowshed. While 700 cattle have been shifted, another 400 will be shifted in the next one month.
Pandian also visited Banki Muhana, the Puri blue flag beach and Niladri beach to oversee progress of various projects.
