Jatni MLA’s son returns home after scaling Mount Everest
BHUBANESWAR: Sidharth Routray, son of Jatni MLA and senior Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray, returned home on Sunday after scaling Mount Everest, the highest mountain on earth. MLA and his supporters welcomed him at the city airport.
“It was a journey of 52 days. Finally, I reached the peak at around 4.15am on May 15. I had a dream to scale Mount Everest and it is completed now after 15 years of training for mountaineering,” said Sidharth.
He has waived Indian National Flag and Patitapabana flag of the Lord Jagannath Temple Puri on the top of the Mount Everest. He also raised slogans including Jay Jagannath and Jay Paika after reaching there.
“I took out the oxygen mask soon after reaching the top and shouted Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Jay Paika and took names of gods and goddesses. I always feel proud that I belong to a warrior clan like Paika (the foot soldiers in the army of Khurda King),” he added.
He expressed his happiness after arriving at his home in Bhubaneswar. “Nobody has ever put Lord Jagannath’s sacred flag on Mount Everest, and I did it with all devotion,” he added.
Regarding the expedition, he said the journey was very challenging. “I was carrying a bag weighing 30kg throughout the journey. I did not give all the weight to my Sherpa guide. Climbing of four peaks has been completed successfully. I want to scale three more peaks to make my record seven summits,” he added.
He has already climbed top mountain peaks in North America, South America and Africa. Sidharth is working as head of digital marketing of a company in the USA. He is staying in California in the USA with his wife Anita Mishra and two daughters.
