Man in golden mask bedazzles Cuttack

CUTTACK: A man is known by his shoes. But Alok Mohanty from Cuttack would rather be known for the golden mask he wears to keep Covid away.
A self-confessed fan of the yellow metal, the 55-year-old furniture store owner from Buxi Bazar area got a special mask made from a jewellery shop in Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazar, and it was delivered to him recently. Weighing 100 grams, the mask costs Rs 3.5 lakh and has become a craze on social media.
“I have a tremendous weakness for gold. I like wearing gold chains and rings. With coronavirus spreading fast, a mask has become an integral part of our life. So, I thought of wearing a gold mask to fight the virus,” Mohanty said.
An N95 mask was used as the base and gold was used to cover it. The respirator has also got a golden makeover. The mask is held together by white elastic bands.
“The mask is quite comfortable to wear and there is no difficulty in breathing with the air filter attached to it. As it has been designed on an N95 mask, it can be used for a long time,” Mohanty said, adding that the mask took 22 days to make.
