Mild tremor felt in south Odisha


The eepicenter of the earthquake was at Paribheta and Tandiguda, near R.Udayagiri in Gajapati district .

BERHAMPUR: Ganjam and Gajapati districts in Odisha recorded an earthquake measuring 3.8 magnitudes on Richter scale on Saturday morning with epicenter at Paribheta and Tandiguda, near R.Udayagiri in Gajapati district amid both the neighbouring districts observed complete weekend shutdown to contain the Covid-19.
As per the data provided by government nodal agency for monitoring seismic activity in the country, the mild tremors occurred at around 7.10am on Saturday. It occurred about 73 kilometers West South-West of Berhampur.
People of the nearby areas including Patrapur, Chikiti and Digapahandi blocks in Ganjam district and Mohana and R.Udayagiri in Gajapati district felt the hit of the tremor and came out from the house in panic when it hit at about 7.10am. It was for the first time people felt such natural calamity.
Gajapati district collector Anupam Saha said the preliminary report revealed that there was no damage reported due to the tremor. “We are assessing the situation” he said. Similarly Ganjam district administration said there was no loss in the district, even though the border areas felt the tremor.
Earlier in the day, another medium-intensity earthquake of magnitude 3.5 jolted Sonitpur in Assam at around 5.26am.
