Night curfew relaxed for Raja Festival
The state government has relaxed night curfew on Friday keeping an eye on the three-day long Raja Festival that starts from Sunday. Raja Festival, popular in the coastal parts of Odisha, celebrates menstruation.
A notification by special relief commission, today, informed about the curfew relaxation that will take place a day prior to the festival. Accordingly, the night curfew will start from 10 pm on Friday instead of the usual 7 pm timing.
People are seen shopping a lot before the festival and the markets get crowded too. To allow people to shop for the festival, the restrictions have been relaxed for a day. The weekend shutdown will continue as usual. “Raja Festival will come every year but to celebrate that again and again, we must stay in good health. Control, So, we request people to follow all the social distancing norms and take precautions while celebrating this parba,” said Subroto Bagchi, state government’s spoksperson for Covid-19.
The government has also asked shopkeepers to maintain social distancing and follow the guidelines while dealing with customers. Several big and small shops in the city were not following the guidelines after there was a huge rush of festival shoppers today. So, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) closed the shops.
