Noted playwright and dramatist Bijay Mishra passes away

Noted playwright, dramatist, scriptwriter and film director Bijay Mishra passed away this evening at the age of 83. He was suffering from old-age related health ailments and was admitted in a private hospital in the city two days ago. On his demise, the Odia film, television and theatre world paid tribute to the legend. Though people couldn’t visit his residence to pay homage due to lockdown, they condoled his death through social media and prayed for the bereaved family members. He had received Odisha Sahitya Academy Award, Kendra Sangeet Natak Academy Award and Jayadev Award for his lifetime contribution to Odia cinema as a screenwriter. He had written more than 60 plays, 55 films and several television serials.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid tribute through social media. “Saddened to know about the passing away of noted playwright and director Bijay Mishra. His immense contribution to Odia literature and cinema will always be remembered. I pay tribute to him and pray for his bereaved family members,’ tweeted Patnaik.
