NSD pays tribute to Bijay Mohanty

The National School of Drama (NSD) today paid tribute to late Bijay Mohanty, who was an alumnus of the premier institution. The veteran actor passed away on Monday after battling failing health post a heart attack two months ago.
Pradip Kumar Mohanty, registrar of the institute, issued the letter that mentions Mohanty as a 1973-batch graduate. “He completed his theatre course here in acting and was part of several plays of NSD during his student days. He had left his impression in some of the plays like Suryamukh, Sultan Rezia, Dante’s Death, Tughlak, Ek AurTathagat, Mere Hokar and Teen Ekant,” the press release said. It also mentions that Mohanty’s contribution to Odia cinema that fetched him the Jayadev Award for lifetime contribution. He was also honoured with the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award for his plays.
Suresh Sharma, director-in-charge of the institute, expressed his condolences and said NSD lost one of its brightest alumni. Besides, his demise also created a void in the Indian art and cinema fraternity. “At this moment of grief, we, all the members of NSD, offer our condolences to the bereaved family members,” he said.
