Odisha: Admissions for higher secondary from August 21
BHUBANESWAR: The state government will start the process of admission to higher secondary schools from August 21. It would continue till September 4. “We would try to ensure that the admission process is hassle-free,” said school and mass education minister Samir Kumar Das.
The application fee has been reduced from Rs 300 to Rs 200 for students of the general category and from Rs 200 to Rs 100 for students of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories in view of the pandemic, the minister added. The merit list will be announced on September 9. In the wake of the pandemic, applicants need not visit Student Academic Management System (SAMS) centres to submit their application forms. The verification and validation of the form will be done during the admission at the respective higher secondary schools, official sources said.
Besides, if any student cannot submit required documents during admission he or she will be given one month time to do so with an undertaking. Last year admissions were held for around 4.5 lakh seats in 1,983 higher secondary schools across the state. This year, 4.21 lakh students have passed Class X board examination and most will seek admission in these colleges.
The state government has trained select teachers from different higher secondary schools for smooth conduct of the admission process. The government had earlier planned counselling sessions for students before admission so that they can make a proper career choice. But it was not possible due to the pandemic.
Due to outbreak of coronavirus, all educational institutions across Odisha will remain closed till August 31. The government has also allowed admission in government primary schools.
