Odisha: Coronavirus scare triggers shutdown in Jeypore till Tuesday


KORAPUT: With surge in Covid-19 positive cases, the Koraput district administration has announced shutdown in Jeypore municipality from the midnight of July 24 to July 28.
An official said during the shutdown door-to-door survey will be done to conduct antigen tests on coronavirus symptomatic persons.
“Though most of the positive cases in Jeypore municipality have been detected from the containment zones but not to take any chance we will conduct doorstep survey to contain the spread of the disease,” said collector (Koraput) Madhusudan Mishra.
According to the collector as many as 98 teams, each one comprising Ashas, anganwadi workers and an official, have been formed to make door-to-door visits for health screening of people in the town in the next four days. The teams have been provided with thermal scanners to measure body temperature of the Covid-19 suspected persons and each day a team will cover at least 70 households, the collector said.
“Also, all slums situated inside the Jeypore municipality will be covered during the survey and we urge people not to hide any symptoms related to coronavirus and share their health details with the teams,” he added.
An official said essential services like medical services, police, fire services, telecom, postal services, sanitation, drinking water, ATMs/ movement of cargo vehicles on NH, agricultural and industrial activities will be allowed according to government norms. Banks will remain open from 8am to 2pm.
Garages and spare parts shops along the NH will remain open from 8am to 2pm.
Meanwhile, with 33 new coronavirus positive cases, including 10 in Jeypore municipality, the district’s Covid-19 cases reached 411 on Friday of which 187 have recovered from the disease.
