Odisha DGP issues circular, asks Covid cured cops to donate plasma

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha police prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) for their personnel, who recovered from Covid-19 infection, to donate plasma. In a letter to the heads of all establishments of the Odisha police, director general police Abhay said the recovered cops should be encouraged to donate plasma.
In the circular, the DGP asked the personnel to follow the conditions that are eligible to donate plasma. “The donor should be aged between 18 and 60 years. He or she should weigh above 55 kg. The donor must have fully recovered from Covid-19 disease and can donate plasma only after 28 days from the date of his or her recovery,” the order read.
On Monday, DGP Abhay announced to issue special appreciation letters to police personnel, who have resumed duty following their recovery from Covid-19 infection. At least 95 cured police personnel have so far resumed offices in different districts. However, they would be eligible to donate plasma after a few days.
Abhay has designated assistant inspector general (AIG) of the state police headquarters, Vivekanand Sharma, as the nodal officer for coordinating with the Covid cured police personnel, who wish to donate plasma. “The Odisha police have decided to participate in the convalescent plasma therapy at the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack. Those, who wish to donate plasma and meet the criteria, should coordinate with Vivekanand Sharma,” the DGP’s order said.
“It has been decided that the police personnel, who successfully donate plasma to the satisfaction of the SCB authority, will be conferred a ‘commendation in service book’ by SP, commandant or heads of the police establishments where he or she is posted,” the order said.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday praised 31 recovered police personnel from Ganjam for their decision to donate plasma to help treat the serious Covid patients. “Appreciate @odisha_police personnel for coming forward to donate plasma to treat serious patients after recovering from #COVID19. Such humane gesture will encourage others, who have already recovered to donate plasma and save precious lives,” Naveen tweeted. Notably, Ganjam and Berhampur police districts have been worst-impacted by the Covid virus in the state.
DGP (fire services, home guards and civil defence) Satyajit Mohanty said some recovered fire services personnel are scheduled to donate plasma at the SCB on Thursday.
