Odisha DGP to issue special appreciation letters to Covid cured personnel
BHUBANESWAR: To boost the morale of police personnel amid Covid-19 pandemic, the director general of police Abhay on Monday announced to issue special appreciation letters to police personnel, who have resumed duty following their recovery from Covid-19 infection.
The ‘special appreciation’ will also be mentioned in their service books as an achievement. Abhay said at least 95 cured police personnel have so far returned to offices in different districts. Though the state police headquarters did not compile the data of total number of Covid-infected police personnel in the state, sources said their number would be nearly 120, mostly in worst-affected Ganjam and Berhampur. Odisha police have so far witnessed death of one member (a constable in Ganjam) due to Covid-19 virus.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik gave a pat to the recovered police personnel. “Appreciation for @Odisha_Police personnel, who have resumed duty after recovering from #COVID19. #Odisha will remain grateful to #CovidWarriors for their dedication and sacrifice during this fight against the invisible enemy,” tweeted the chief minister’s office.
Abhay said he issued a circular to the heads of all the police establishments in the state to furnish the list of the police frontline warriors, who have recovered and promptly resumed duty. “Many police Corona warriors have been infected with COVID-19 while discharging their duty. However, COVID-19 has not affected their spirit or determination to save the people of Odisha. They have defeated COVID-19 and re-joined frontline enforcement duty,” Abhay said.
Bulk of those 95 cured cops came from Ganjam and Berhampur police districts. While 25 recovered police personnel have resumed duty in Ganjam police district, 23 re-joined work in Berhampur police district. “All our recovered police personnel will donate plasma to save lives of critical Covid-infected patients,” another police officer said.
Police said advisories are being issued to police stations in regular intervals to adopt adequate safety precautions while dealing with visitors and arresting accused persons. Wary of the vulnerability of police personnel to the virus, the commissionerate police earlier decided to launch a six-week refresher course on fitness for its overweight personnel in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
