Odisha: East Coast Railway headquarters gets a cyber cell
ECoR has deployed well trained RPF personnel in this cell.
BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railway (ECoR) general manager Vidya Bhushan on Thursday inaugurated a Cyber Cell at its headquarters in Bhubaneswar to collect digital evidence and use of cyber investigative techniques.
The general manager said this cell of railway protection force (RPF) will help in better detection and prosecution of increasing white collar crimes that involve hi-tech technologies and IT systems. He also emphasized on technical training for the RPF personnel to tackle the increasing online fraud cases.
ECoR has deployed well trained RPF personnel in this cell. It has procured and installed high end hardware and software for this purpose. Sometimes some ticket agents use illegal softwares to book reservation tickets and sell it to passengers. The RPF teams also conduct raid on the shops in a regular interval.
“The cyber cell will help in detection of unscrupulous elements cornering reserved berths in advance, by passing the process of reservation using unauthorized software/applications. These persons sell tickets to the needy passengers at high price which is illegal,” said a senior railway officer.
He said the cyber cell will also help in tracking of criminals who run away after committing crime in the Railway premises. It was seen that some anti-social elements damage the level crossing gates and steal railway property.
The Railways can share data with law enforcement agencies on crime against women and children, narcotics, smuggling of forest products in stations and trains. This cell is certainly going to help the Railways and passengers, said the ECoR official statement.
