Odisha: Governor Ganeshi Lal, wife test positive for Covid-19

BHUBANESWAR: Governor Ganeshi Lal, his wife Sushila Devi and four other family members tested positive for Covid-19 here on Monday.
The governor tweeted about his Covid test result and advised those who had come in contact with him to get themselves tested. Government sources said the governor and his family members had been admitted in SUM Covid Hospital here. Lal who is 78, underwent the test following mild fever. His condition is stable. Others in the family are asymptomatic. Three others in the Raj Bhavan here — the governor’s private secretary and two doctors — had tested positive for the virus recently.
On Monday, 1,389 people tested positive for the virus in the state, raising Odisha’s case load to 2,93,214. The new cases were from among 43,332 samples, indicating a positivity rate of 3.2%. The state’s all-time average positivity rate now stands at 6.31%.
Nine people died, increasing the state’s Covid death toll to 1,340. With another person succumbing to the virus, the total deaths in Khurda — 231 — surpassed that of Ganjam (230). Cuttack currently has the third highest deaths (112), including one on Monday. Three others died in Sundargarh and one each in Kandhamal, Puri Sambalpur and Sonepur.
Another 1,527 patients recovered increasing the number of cured patients to 2,79,091. The recovery rate jumped to 95.18%. The number of active positive cases in the state went down to 12,739. Except for Khurda (1,600) and Cuttack (1,001), all other districts have less than 1,000 active cases each now. Gajapati has 38 active cases, the lowest in the state. Government authorities said more than 80% of the active positive cases are in home isolation. Only around 2,400 patients are in hospitals.
Meanwhile, amid rising number of patients returning to hospitals with post-Covid complications, the government is planning is start OPD services, special clinics and research units for them in SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack soon. Jayant Panda, head of the PG Department of Internal Medicine in SCB, said patients with post-Covid problems will be provided consultation in the special clinics.
“The SCB is in the process of collaborating with overseas universities such as Johns Hopkins, Oxford and Harvard for research and management of post-Covid complications,” said Panda.
