Odisha: Homeopathy medicine to shield Puri Jagannath temple servitors from Covid-19 infection
BHUBANESWAR: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri has decided to give a prophylactic medicine of homeopathy to the servitors to improve their immune system and help them fight Covid-19 ahead of June 23 Rath Yatra.
Though no studies have so far established the effectiveness of any drug or vaccine in fighting novel coronavirus, the SJTA said they took the decision following a recent recommendation by the ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) to try the homeopathic prophylactic drug to prevent Covid-19 infection.
“We will give the homeopathic immune booster medicine to servitors and their families. The ministry of AYUSH earlier recommended all states about its use. Our state health and family welfare department also endorsed it and decided to use the medicine,” SJTA’s administrator (development) A K Jena told TOI. The shrine administration will organise health camp at Niladri Bhakta Nivas to administer the immune booster medicine to servitors and their families from June 9 to June 13.
While the administration is yet to decide the exact number of servitors, who would be given the preventive medicine, sources said the servitors of Daitapati Nijog, Pratihari Nijog, Suar Mahasuar Nijog Pujapanda Nijog and Garabadu Nijog and their families have been asked to attend the medical camp on different dates. Temple sources said at least 1207 persons, comprising servitors and their family members, would be given the medicine.
“We will give Arsenicum album 30 (the homeopathy medicine) to the servitors and their families. It has recommended one doze of Arsenicum album 30, daily in empty stomach for three days. The dose should be repeated after one month by following the same schedule in case corona virus infections prevail in the society or community,” Jena said.
The temple administration did not respond whether the medicine will be given to the servitors to keep them fit for June 23 Rath Yatra. Recently, temple administration subjected around 500 servitors to Covid-19 test before allowing them to perform Debasnan Purnima rituals in Jagannath temple on June 5. Amid the pandemic, the state government has not yet decided whether this year’s Rath Yatra will be observed in grand manner or not.
