Odisha: Police seize huge cache of Maoist explosives


KORAPUT: A day after a joint team of district voluntary force (DVF) and special operations group (SOG) engaged in a gunbattle with Maoists in swabhiman anchal under Malkangiri district, security personnel recovered a huge cache of explosives and Maoist belongings from the spot on Friday.
Police said while coming across the area, security personnel recovered as many as 14 detonators, 10 rounds of live ammunition, one .303 gun, one magazine, one mobile phone, medicines, Maoist literature and kit bags, among others.
“It was a transit camp of the Maoists. Unable to face the heavy firing from our side, they deserted the camp and no arrests could be made. However, our operation has been intensified in the region to track down the rebels,” said SP (Malkangiri) Hrishikesh Khilari.
According to the SP, after the establishment of five BSF camps and functioning of the police station at Jodambo, the Maoists are losing their tribal support base.
