Odisha reports seven new Covid-19 cases, state’s count rises to 118

BHUBANESWAR: Seven more people — four from Sundargarh and three from Bhadrak — tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of infections in Odisha to 118, the health department updates on Tuesday show.
With the fresh positive case, Bhadrak’s tally rose to 19 while Sundargarh’s count stands at 10. Eight people — six from Balasore and one each from Jajpur and Koraput had tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. The number of affected districts has risen to 11 with Koraput joining the list.
The six positive patients in Balasore include a 32-year-old man who recently returned from Kolkata and five from the Niliabagh containment zone, raising the district’s total to 16. “The five from Niliabagh have mild symptoms and were in home quarantine,” the information and public relations department tweeted.
The one from Jajpur, a 34-year-old man from Basudevpur block, has also recently returned from Kolkata. The number of positive cases in Jajpur climbed to 19. The first case of Koraput is a 22-year-old health worker who was recently selected to join the government service on contract as part of the recruitment for Covid-19 duty. He was quarantined and tested after he returned from Kolkata on April 14,
A government statement said two more persons from Bhubaneswar recovered from the virus increases the number of cured people to 37. The state capital, the worst affected with 46 positive cases, has not reported any new case in the past 12 days. The active cases in Bhubaneswar went down to 20 and cured to 25 while the number of active cases in the state is 73, 164 persons are in hospital isolation.
Meanwhile, a resident doctor at a government-run Covid facility in Bhubaneswar who was off duty died of dilated cardiomyopathy and multi-organ failure in a private hospital. A spokesperson of the hospital said he had tested negative for Covid-19.
Nineteen of the 30 districts in Odisha continue to remain in Green Zone with not a single positive case. The Green Zone districts include Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Raygada, Nabrangpur, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh and Jharsuguda.
Bhubaneswar has reported so far, the highest 46 cases and one death. However, it has not reported a single positive case in the past 12 days. If it doesn’t report positive cases for two more days, it will move to Orange Zone as per the criteria of the ministry of health and family welfare. Of the 46 cases, 25 have recovered, reducing the number of active cases to 20.
