Odisha: Six from West Bengal killed, 40 injured in bus accident in Kalinga ghat

BERHAMPUR: At least six persons, including four women of West Bengal died and around 40 others sustained injuries when a tourist bus rolled down in Kalinga ghat, near Durgaprasad village under Ganjam district’s Bhanjanagar police station late on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The tourist bus carrying around 60 persons from West Bengal, was going towards Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh from Daringibandi in Kandhamal district. The mishap took place at about 12.30am, said SP (Ganjam) Brijesh Rai. The driver lost control over the vehicle, police suspected.
Police and firefighters from Bhanjangar rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons and shifted them for medical treatment. The bodies were sent to sub-divisional hospital at Bhanjanagar for post-mortem, police said.

The bodies were recovered after breaking the window pans of the ill-fated vehicle, said SS Mishra, sub divisional police officer, Bhanjanagar.
The deceased have been identified as Supiya Denre (33), Sanjeet Patra (33), Rima Denre (22), her mother Mausumi Denre, Barnali Manna (34) and Swapan Gushait (44), police said.
Sources said the tourists from West Bengal reached Daringbadi on Tuesday. After spending the entire day in the hill town of Kandhamal district, they left towards Visakhapatnam at about 11.30 pm after taking their dinner.
