Pangolin seized in Kalahandi dist, poacher arrested

Bhubaneswar: The special task force of the crime branch on Sunday seized a pangolin and arrested a poacher in Kalahandi, Riyan Ramanath reports.
The poacher was identified as Jitendra Kumar (35). “We had reliable information of a pangolin being smuggled. We intercepted the poacher with the pangolin along Bhawanipatna-Madanpur road with the forest officials. Further investigation is on to ascertain the poacher’s link with carriers and traders,” said an STF officer. The endangered mammal, weighing 13.330 kg, and the poacher was handed over to the forest department for necessary legal action. With this recovery, the total seizure of pangolins in the state by the STF in two years has touched 14.
