Parties finetune strategy for byelection
Bhubaneswar: All the three major parties are fine-tuning their strategies for the Brajrajnagar byelection scheduled for May 31 as a high-voltage campaigning would start in two days after publication of the final list of contesting candidates.
BJD has fielded Alaka Mohanty, wife of late MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty, whose death necessitated the bypoll, while the BJP has picked former MLA Radharani Panda, who unsuccessfully contested in 2019. Former speaker Kishore Chandra Patel is the Congress candidate.
While the opposition BJP and Congress have already announced their list of star campaigners, the BJD has roped in nearly a dozen senior leaders, including ministers, to oversee the party’s campaigning strategy for the bypoll. The ruling BJD is yet to release its list of star campaigners.
BJD has formed various committees including one central committee comprising senior leaders like Prasanna Acharya, Debi Mishra, Niranjan Pujari and Arun Sahoo. The overall coordination will be done by health minister Naba Das and party’s Jharsuguda observer Subhash Chandra Singh.
