Raimohan Parida remembers his teacher Bijay Mohanty
Actor Raimohan Parida, who has acted in films, theatres, television and jatra, remembered Bijay Mohanty, who was his teacher in Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. While he was a student in late ’80s, he also acted as a villain in many films opposite his teacher.
“I was a student of Bijay Sir in 1985 and he taught me at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya till 1990. During that period, I also did some films with him. But after 1991, I played villain against him in a film that gave me name and fame in Odisha. I became a superstar. Back then, people would think that I was from Mumbai. He was lucky for me. I have done a lot of films with him like Pathara Khasuchhi Bada Deulu, Laxmipratima, Sindoora Nuha Khelaghara, Janmadata and more,” remembered Raimohan.
Like all students of Bijay Mohanty, Raimohan also received a lot of motivation from his teacher and in his words. He feels Odisha can never produce another Bijay Mohanty. “He used to pat on my back and encourage me. It was great to work in films where your teacher was also working. It was really a matter of great pride for us that he was given guard of honour on the premises of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. There will never be another Bijay Mohanty,” he said about feeling proud of being a student of such a legend.
