Rain likely today at some places in state
Bhubaneswar: A few places over interior and isolated places over coastal Odisha are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorm activities accompanied by lightning in the next four-five days, starting Tuesday, an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast said on Monday.
“Such thunderstorm activities will continue amid small rise in temperature in parts of the state, particularly in some western and interior pockets, during the same period,” the forecast added.
H R Biswas, head of the regional IMD centre, said thunderstorm activities would influence a drop in temperature at some places. However, he said there would be no significant change in prevailing day temperature for the next four-five days.
Biswas said southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of Bay of Bengal, most parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Monday. Condition will also be favourable for further advance of monsoon, he added.
Biswas said there was no specific forecast so far on chances of formation of a fresh low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, even though the weather outlook suggested its formation.
Meanwhile, day temperature on Monday hovered between 40-42 degree Celsius in 10 places. Balangir recorded the highest 42.8°C for the day. Boudh and Sonepur each recorded 42.5° followed by Titlagarh and Bargarh each at 42.4°C. Some places experienced thunderstorms in last 24 hours, said the IMD report.
