RD students protest against semester exam

BHUBANESWAR: Students of Rama Devi Women’s University on Thursday staged a demonstration urging the government and university authorities to cancel the semester-end examinations and promote students through an alternate method.
“Around 24% students of our university are now out of Odisha. Around 18% are staying in containment zones. It is not safe to hold examinations in the classroom during this time,” said Swikruti Mishra, a first year PG student. She said private hostel owners will not allow students. “Students will also risk infection while travelling in public transport,” she added. The state government had decided that examinations for sixth semester of UG or Plus III final year will be held between June 20 and July 24. Result of these examinations will be declared by August 31. Similarly, final year PG examinations will be completed by August 20 and its results will be announced by September 20.
Padmaja Mishra, vice-chancellor of the university, said the decision of holding end semester examinations has been taken by the state government. “We cannot change the decision. End semester examination is important because we will conduct Common PG Entrance test later,” she added.
