State records 1,434 fresh cases, 15 deaths in 24 hours
BHUBANESWAR: Altogether 1,434 fresh cases in the last 24 hours took the Covid caseload in the state to 3,01,574 on Sunday. With 15 more patients dying of Covid, the death toll went up to 1,425.
Among the deceased, three each died in Khurda and Sambalpur, two each in Bargarh and Balangir while five others were reported from Cuttack, Deogarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh district. Khurda (248) has witnessed the highest number of casualties followed by Ganjam (232) and Cuttack (119).
Of the newly detected cases, about 833 were from quarantine centres and 601 were from among the local contacts. The Covid-19 cases were reported from among the 50,991 samples tested in the last 24 hours. This has taken the cumulative tests to 49,39,390 in the state so far.
The maximum number of cases were detected from Khurda (144) followed by Cuttack (141), Balasore (99), Sundargarh (98), Angul (90), Mayurbhanj (80), Puri (77), Jagatsinghpur (68), Balangir (66), Bargarh (65) and so on. Apart from this, the state pool has added 28 cases to the tally.
The number of cases detected in a single day from the state capital came down to 57 on Sunday, of which 13 were linked with earlier positive cases and 44 were local contact cases. Similarly, of the total 141 fresh Covid cases reported from Cuttack district, 55 belonged to Cuttack city, of which 26 were local cases. Ahead of Diwali, markets across the state seem to return to normal with people coming out in hordes for shopping throwing caution to the wind.
