Union minister Pratap Sarangi wants probe into social worker’s death
BHUBANESWAR: Union minister Pratap Sarangi on Wednesday wrote to the chief minister Naveen Patnaik and sought a direction to the commissionerate police to assist the government railway police (GRP) in unravelling the mystery behind noted social worker Aditya Dash’s death.
Aditya’s body was found along the railway track near Lingaraj passenger halt on July 7.
The GRP, which had suspected Dash might have committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train, subsequently registered a murder case and started the probe from possible murder angle.
Aditya’s death has been shrouded in mystery. People raise doubts that he could have been murdered. Though the GRP is probing the case, the pace and sincerity of the investigation has failed to instil confidence in the mind of people. “I request you to instruct the commissionerate of police to chip in and start a joint probe with the GRP,” Sarangi said.
The minister later tweeted that a prompt investigation into the cause of the death and exemplary punishment of those, if found guilty, would go a long way in restoring the people’s faith in the rule of law.
GRP said their investigation was moving in the right track. “We have already questioned Aditya’s friends and family members as part of our investigation and recorded their statements. A diary that was recovered from his home and contained purported suicide contents has been sent to the handwriting bureau for examination,” a senior GRP officer said.
