577 more test Covid-19 positive, 6 die in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Six more Covid-19 patients died in Odisha, raising the total number of deaths of patients infected by the virus in state to 67 even as 577 more tested positive in the highest single day spike. The total number of infected mounted to 11201, the health department said on Thursday.
The health department said four patients died of Covid while two others Covid-19 positive patients died from their comorbidities. With this, the number of Covid deaths increased to 52 while deaths of Covid patients from comorbidities rose to 15.
Those who died from Covid-19 include three from Ganjam district and one from Bhadrak. A 65-year-old woman who was suffering from diabetes and hypertension, a 58 years old man suffering from tubercular meningitis and a 63 years old man suffering from diabetes. The man (58) from Bhadrak was suffering from diabetes and chronic kidney disease, the health department updated on its Covid dashboard.
The two Covid patients who died due to other reasons include a 42 years old man from Keonjhar district who died of cancer of hard palate and a woman (88) of Bhadrak, who died of pyrexia with acute kidney injury and metabolic acidosis.
It is for the third day in a row that the state has witnessed 500 positive cases on a day. The new positive cases include the highest 260 from Ganjam besides Sundargarh (83), Khurda (56), Keonjhar (56) and Balasore (30) among other districts. The state now has 4128 active positive cases.
In the worst affected Ganjam, the number of positive cases increased to 3096 and deaths to 31 including 30 from Covid and one from non-Covid reasons.
The government banned government employees commuting to workplaces in Bhubaneswar from places other than Cuttack and Khurda towns from attending offices till July 31. On the request of the state government, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has cancelled stoppages of trains in Ganjam district. An ECoR spokesperson said the Bhubaneswar- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus special and Howrah-Secunderabad special will not stop in Ganjam. While the first train had stoppages at Balugaon, Chhatrapur and Berhampur, the second train had stoppages at Balugaon and Berhampur. The Bhubaneswar-Berhmapur intercity will not ply till further notice, he said.
Ganjam, which reported more than 200 cases per day for fourth day in a row has further restricted movement of people outside the district. Those needing to travel for health emergencies and government works have to take permission from the sub-divisional magistrates, the district administration said.
Gajapati district administration announced to shut down its district headquarters town Paralakhemundi from July 10 to 12. Sixty medical teams shall do door to door screening with infrared thermometer, pulse oximeter and antigen kit during the shutdown, the district administration tweeted.
