Covid may push back government’s Make in Odisha conclave
BHUBANESWAR: The third edition of the Make in Odisha conclave, scheduled from November 30 to December 4, is likely to get postponed owing to Covid, but that won’t stop the government from continuing with its investment outreach programmes over digital platforms.
“The government will take a call on new dates and the manner in which the next edition will be held,” an industries department official said. The official added that it would be impossible to hold the investors’ summit amid travel-related restrictions.

He was speaking on a day IPICOL, the state’s nodal agency for promoting investments, signed a digital MoU with FICCI as its national industry partner to carry out exercises in the run-up to the conclave. “Odisha has put in place all the mechanisms to realize the vision of making the state an investment destination of choice. The 5T initiative has brought about a change in governance, making significant contribution to the overall industrial ecosystem of the state,” chief minister Naveen Patnaik said while presiding over the ceremony on Tuesday via video-conference.
IPICOL’s managing director Nitin Jawale from Bhubaneswar and FICCI’s deputy general secretary Arun Chawla from New Delhi also took part in the ceremony.
Highlighting his government’s commitment to facilitating industrial activities during the pandemic, Naveen said the state had undertaken various activities to reach out to the investors with the help of technology. “Odisha has attracted over Rs 24,300 crore worth of new investments since February. It is among the top destinations in terms of grounding of industrial projects,” the chief minister added.
When contacted, Jawale said they would try to hold at least one investors’ outreach programme every month till the government decides on the dates for the third edition of the conclave. “Investment intent of Rs 6 lakh crore was received during the first two editions. More than 60 per cent of these are in various stages of implementation,” industries minister Dibya Shankar Mishra said.
