East Coast Railway loads 104 million tonne of freight so far this year

BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has loaded 104 million tonne (MT) of freight till October end despite lockdown and Covid crisis. It is the first zone in the Indian Railways to touch 100MT loading by end of October this financial year. This is about 50 per cent of last year’s freight loading in ECoR.
South East Central Railway (SECR) has loaded around 96 MT by October end this year, while South Eastern Railway (SER) has managed to load 92.59MT during this time period followed by other railway zones.
For the first time, ECoR zone headquartered at Bhubaneswar had set a new record by surpassing 200 MT mark of freight loading in the last financial year against 191.76 MT in 2018-19. It had topped among all zonal railways across the country in overall earning, freight loading and freight earning for the year 2019-20 financial year.
Setting another record, ECoR has loaded 10,000 wagons of goods on a single day on Sunday. It is the highest loading on a single day in the current fiscal. Chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Railway Board congratulated ECoR team for this feat.
ECoR general manager Vidya Bhushan congratulated the ECoR workforce of all three railway divisions for their hardworking and dedication to achieve this remarkable loading. He has also declared Group Award to each division for this performance.
This railway zone had loaded 50MT of goods by July end. During lockdown and coronavirus outbreak, the Indian Railways had ensured uninterrupted supply of essential commodities throughout the country. In essential commodities, it had carried food grains, fruits and vegetables, milk products, edible oil, sugar and salt, medical equipment and medicine, PPE Kits and other grocery items apart from fertilizer, petroleum products and coal.
