Odisha cops to get posting in security wing after return from SPG, NSG deputation

BHUBANESWAR: State police personnel, who return from deputation from special protection group (SPG), national security guard (NSG) or any Central security agencies, will now be deputed in the security wing of Odisha police. Earlier, upon their return from deputation, the personnel were joining their respected parent organisations.
Director general of police Abhay has issued an order about posting of the personnel, who return after working with the SPG and NSG, in the state security wing. The motive of engaging the returnees in the Odisha security wing is to take advantage of the experience and skills of the personnel, who serve in the elite Central security agencies for several years.
The state security wing, which functions under the director (intelligence, Odisha police), has the same mandate like the SPG and NSG. The security wing personnel provide security to VIP and VVIP protectees, including governor, chief justice of the Orissa high court and chief minister in the state. Police personnel from districts and different police-related establishments are currently inducted into the security wing on deputation.
“Earlier, if a police officer from Ganjam district or commissionerate police went to the SPG or NSG, he used to join the parent organisation after his repatriation from the Central security agencies. Their expertise and skills were not properly utilized following their return to their parent organisations. Our security wing is the best place for their posting to use their experience and exposure,” a senior officer of the state police headquarters said.
Notably, very few personnel from the rank of constable to inspector from the state police have been going to the SPG, NSG and other Central security agencies on deputation. A few months ago, five police personnel of different ranks (constable, sepoy and commandant) from the state returned from SPG and NSG.
Those, who are inducted into the state security wing, should be between 35 and 40 years with good fitness. They undergo medical fitness tests, involving cardiovascular, vision acuity and motor coordination. The personnel also have to clear a firing test and a physical proficiency test.
