Odisha: ‘Green corridor’ formed to move critically ill patient to airport
BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack commissionerate police in coordination with the traffic police on Friday created a “green corridor” to facilitate the movement of a critically ill patient from a private hospital in Nayapalli to Biju Patnaik International Airport here in just 6.05 minutes. The patient was then airlifted to KIMS, Hyderabad.
Sources said the patient, Abhay Kumar Jena, a resident of Brahmagiri in Puri, had undergone a lung transplant recently in the private hospital. However, as his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to KIMS, Hyderabad, for better treatment.
The hospital management informed the commissionerate police to facilitate the movement of the patient from the hospital in Nayapalli to the airport following which the police, at around 12:30 pm, created the corridor and transported the patient.
A ‘green corridor’ is a route managed in a way that traffic signals turn green to facilitate non-stop movement of the ambulance. The ambulance with the patient moved via Jayadev Vihar Square and reached the airport. It was escorted by two police control room vehicles, a source said.
Taking to social media, DCP traffic (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) tweeted, “A patient in Very Critical Condition was facilitated Green Corridor from Health Village Hospital Nayapalli to Airport. The Green Corridor facilitated hassle-free transportation in 6 minutes and 5 seconds. Our best wishes to the medical team. Kudos Team Traffic Bhubaneswar.”
It must be noted here that this is the fourth such ‘green corridor’ created this month for shifting critically ill patients to be airlifted to different hospitals.
