Odisha: Naba Kisore Das proposes quality check of ayurvedic Covid drugs

BHUBANESWAR: Health and family welfare minister Naba Kisore Das on Thursday proposed to conduct quality checking of all the ayurvedic medicines available in the market which claim to treat and cure Covid-19.
Das, while attending a high-level group of ministers meeting on Thursday, said it was necessary to do a quality check of the ayurvedic medicines to ascertain if their claims were genuine. He proposed that this should be done at the district level.
The minister also proposed to conduct periodic checking of RTPCR and other testing equipment installed in different healthcare institutions to ensure they are in top working order. He said the expert committees should take the responsibility of conducting quality checks on these machines.
Besides, Das also sought the formation of another committee of experts to analyse and ascertain the reasons of deaths by Covid. He proposed that the committee can report to the government on this matter. “An expert committee should be formed to include microbiologists, virologists, epidemiologists and representatives from the drug directorate to analyse Covid deaths and report on their prevention,” Das said.
He asked for more awareness drives on ayurveda, naturopathy and homoeopathy among the citizens for improving their immune system. “A set of guidelines can be drafted for the purpose,” the minister added.
Officials in the meeting have decided to provide infrared thermometers to every state-run healthcare institution so that a quick thermal scan of people’s temperatures can be done.
