Odisha reports 618 more Covid-19 cases, tally rises to 14,898

BHUBANESWAR: The Covid count in state jumped to 14898 with 618 more people testing positive for the virus on Wednesday while three patients died due to the viral infections raising the death toll to 77. The state added the last 5,000 positive cases in just one week.
The total number of cured patients topped 10,000 after a record 612 patients recovered on Wednesday.
The three who died of Covid include two men from Ganjam aged 65 and 86 suffering from diabetes and hypertension respectively, and another man from Bhubaneswar (72) with no other underlying conditions.
The deaths of Covid positive patients due to their comorbidities increased to 24 after two more died due to their underlying health conditions. A 72-year-old man from Ganjam died from severe traumatic brain injury and a 52-year old man from Khurda district died of coronary artery disease with left ventricular dysfunction.
More than 50% of the total Covid positive cases in state (7833 of 14898) and 67% of total deaths (52 of 77) were added in the past fortnight. The new positive cases include the highest 286 from Ganjam, followed by Khurda (107), Balasore (61), among other districts. State capital Bhubaneswar witnessed its highest single day spike with 90 positive cases.
Number of total cured patients in the state now stands at 10,476. The new recoveries include the highest 270 patients from the worst hit Ganjam besides Sundargarh (84), Keonhar (48), Gajapati (35), Balasore (31) Khurda (28), Nayagarh (25) and Jajpur (20).
