Puri launches ‘Mo Beach Yoga’ to promote healthy lifestyle

BHUBANESWAR: To promote healthy lifestyle habits through yoga and environment education, the Puri district administration organised ‘Mo Beach Yoga’ on Puri beach on Saturday. More than 200 people, who had recovered from Covid-19, took part in the unique initiative.
There were 10 instructors working across 10 platforms along the 800-metre stretch on the beach following Covid guidelines.
The Mo Beach Yoga is a first-of-its-kind beach campaign and a pilot project of the directorate of Ayush under the health and family welfare department of the state government in association with the beach management committee.
“The main objective is to promote healthy lifestyle and wellness tourism among the public. The participation of Covid-19 recovered patients will spread a positive message about the disease and create awareness about the environment,” Puri collector Balwant Singh said. “This initiative will also promote sustainable development goals in one of the most natural ways,” he added.
For the two-day programme, 20 yoga instructors of Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Puri, have been roped in for teaching the asanas and yoga postures. These instructors have been trained and oriented for the purpose of enhancing immunity of the people against Covid-19 infection.
“It is indeed a unique experience to do yoga against the panoramic background of the sea beach in Puri. The sound of the waves and cool breeze is therapeutic. This will help in promoting Puri as a place for wellness and attract more visitors,” Sangram Keshari Mohapatra, a participant, said.
Sources said the pilot project would set the benchmark for resilience and safety methods to be adopted for the on-ground implementation while making judicious use of traditional therapies and local sustainable solutions.
The Puri beach recently bagged the prestigious Blue Flag tag and also successfully conducted the Mo Beach campaign – a beach cleaning initiative.
