Six more deaths take Odisha Covid-19 toll to 48

BHUBANESWAR: Six Covid-19 patients died in Odisha in the past 24 hours, taking the state’s death toll to 48, while another person died of comorbidities. There have also been 527 positive tests, taking the number of infected people to 10,624.
The health department said six of the seven deaths – five men and one woman – were due to Covid-19 and the other patient died due to comorbidities. Together, the toll has now gone up to 61, with 48 deaths from Covid and 13 due to comorbidities.
A record 303 patients have also recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total cured patients to 7006.
Among the six Covid deaths, three were reported from Ganjam and one each from Bhubaneswar, Rayagada and Kendrapada. Two men, aged 56 and 64, and a 50-year-old woman died in Ganjam. The 64-year-old and the woman were both suffering from diabetes. With this, the death toll in Ganjam district has increased to 27.
The deceased from Rayagada was an 80-year-old suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to the health department. The 49-year-old man from Kendrapada who died had diabetes. The 55-year-old from Bhubaneswar had no other known underlying health conditions.
In Khurda district, a 53-year-old HIV+ man, who had tested positive for Covid, succumbed to HIV-AIDS, the government said. His death has been attributed to non-Covid reasons.
