BHUBANESWAR: Employees at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, who were earlier not too keen on taking the vaccine, seem to have finally realised the need to get inoculated as Covid cases keep rising. So far 88% of the employees have taken the first dose of Covaxin, which is being administered in the state capital only.
The national institute has a total of 4,603 employees and it has vaccinated as many as 3,710 so far. This is 81% of the total employees. Nearly 300 staff are having contraindications and around 100 in database are not working at AIIMS Bhubaneswar at present. “So, effectively, the first dose coverage among eligible healthcare workers is around 88%,” said an official from the institute.
The official said several healthcare workers are taking vaccine every day. “The employees, who were earlier not interested to take the jab, are now getting vaccinated. We are witnessing vaccine confidence among the people,” the official added.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar director Gitanjali Batmanabane said they are recruiting new people and they are also getting vaccine. “Some of the employees who had not taken earlier are also taking the jab. More people have come forward to take the jab,” Batmanabane said.
