Bhubaneswar additional CP to join Narcotics Control Bureau

Sanjay Kumar Singh

BHUBANESWAR: Additional commissioner of police Sanjay Kumar Singh is all set to proceed on central deputation and likely to join as the deputy director general (DDG) in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The state government has given its nod to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) regarding Singh’s transfer.
Sources said Singh recently applied for central deputation and urged the NCB to consider his application for filling up the post of DDG in the bureau. The MHA had sought clearance from the state government.
“This department has no objection for his (1996 batch IPS of Odisha cadre Sanjay Singh) posting as DDG in the NCB on deputation basis. No disciplinary proceeding or criminal case is pending against Singh. And he is free from vigilance angle as no such case registered against him by the anti-corruption directorate,” read a home department letter sent to the MHA’s under secretary Kshitish Kumar on Thursday.
Incidentally, Singh currently heads the drug task force (DTF) in the commissionerate police and launched a series of anti-drug drives that led to the busting of several drug trafficking rackets in Bhubaneswar. His proposed posting in the NCB assumes significance as Odisha frequently witnesses cases related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and smuggling of ganja and brown sugar. This is the second time Singh would proceed on Central deputation. In 2008, he was deputed in the CBI.
