Cop booked for forcibly entering Puri Jagannath temple flouting lockdown order

BHUBANESWAR: Puri police on Sunday registered a case against a police inspector for forcibly entering Jagannath temple that was shut to devotees since March 20 in the wake of Covid-19 outbreak.
“We received information that inspector Deepak Jena (Barchana inspector) from Jajpur district and his family forcibly entered Jagannath temple on Sunday evening despite a ban on entry of devotees due to Covid-19 outbreak. During inquiry, the allegation against him was found to be true. We have registered a case against the inspector,” superintendent of police (Puri) Uma Shankar Dash said.
Sources said the state police headquarters will initiate departmental proceeding against the inspector.
