Eight domestic flights likely to operate from Bhubaneswar on Monday
BHUBANESWAR: At least eight domestic flights are likely to resume operations from Biju Patnaik International Airport from Monday.
After the civil aviation ministry decided resumption of domestic flights in the country in the fourth phase lockdown, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the highest technical body to accord permission to the airlines, sent list of the airlines, which had evinced interest, to the airport here.
Airport director V V Rao said permission of DGCA had been granted to 12 flights (five airlines) for Bhubaneswar but, three will stand cancelled. “Three flights may not operate on Monday as there are some issues at Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai. The airlines have not attributed reasons for that,” he told TOI.
He said among the cancelled is Alliance Air that fly from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata via Jharsaguda.

The airport officials declined to comment on whether low booking of tickets forced the airlines to cancel operations. “By Monday noon, everything will be clear,” the director added. The other four airlines, which will operate apart from Air India are Indigo, Vistara and Air Asia, he said.
However, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) here had received the proposed schedule of 12 flights with destinations – Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Jharsuguda.
“In view of the resumption of flights, we have completed inspection and trial operations of all required sections and along with all stakeholders including the security personnel. Sanitisers and wash basins have been provided at arrival and departure lounge to maintain hand hygiene. There will be periodic sanitization of surfaces, trolley, trays, xray machines and counters,” the director said.
He said the passengers, who reach at the airport will have to download and then register Aarogya Sethu App to update health condition.
The state government on Monday ruled that domestic fliers reaching here and staying for more than 72 hours will have to go for home isolation (if they belong to urban areas) and for government quarantine facility (if they belong to rural areas). Travellers returning from the state within 72 hours need not either be home-quarantined or move to government facility.
